I do not despise you
I despise the society that made you
the one that twisted your sorrow into anger
twisted everything into anger
ground and compressed into an easy emotion
& left no room for etcetera

& it all tastes like rubbing alcohol
to peel me away
& it’s okay because
flesh is a difficult word composed of
seven layers
& in the least there’s seven
between
us

& in reality there are many things to peel
a peanut (nutty inside flavorless)
an onion (spicy inside shiny)
a lemon (sour inside bitter)
a sock (flesh inside a mess)
a bandaid (wound inside a pretense)
a contact lens (blindness inside a pretense)

& it’s all just (pretense) & it’s all just difficult words
composed
of
difficult
things
